چکیده

We investigated the role of ambient gas pressure on the expansion and the emission features during ultrafast laser ablation of metal target. Plasma plumes were generated using 800 nm, 40 fs laser pulses on a copper target and the ambient air pressure was varied more than seven orders (1 10 5 – 760 Torr) of magnitude. Fast-gated images showed a complex interaction between the plume and ambient leading to changes in the plume geometry with pressure as well as time. The ambient pressure levels are found to affect both the line intensities and broadening along with signal to noise (S/N) and signal to background (S/B) ratios. The optimum pressure condition for analytical applications is found to be 100 Torr. VC 2013 AIP Publishing LLC. [http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4829487]

Emission features of femtosecond laser ablated carbon plasma in ambient helium

We investigated the optical emission features of plasmas produced by 800 nm, 40 fs ultrafast laser pulses on a carbon target in the presence of ambient helium or nitrogen gases at varied pressures. Fast photography employing intensified charge coupled device, optical emission spectroscopy, and temporally spatially resolved optical time of flight emission spectroscopy were used as diagnostic too...

Influence of Interface Thermal Resistance on Relaxation Dynamics of Metal-Dielectric Nanocomposite Materials under Ultrafast Pulse Laser Excitation

Nanocomposite materials, including noble metal nanoparticles embedded in a dielectric host medium, are interesting because of their optical properties linked to surface plasmon resonance phenomena. For studding of nonlinear optical properties and/or energy transfer process, these materials may be excited by ultrashort pulse laser with a temporal width varying from some femtoseconds to some hund...

Study of laser ablation using nano-second laser pulses

In this paper, the laser ablation process based on the irradiation of nanosecond pulsed lasers on a copper target surface in the presence of Helium gas is studied. The dynamical behaviors of the generated plasma in the helium gas and evaporated copper at the atmospheric pressure are examined using a laser pulse, laser wavelength of and intensity of 7×1010W/cm2. A one-dimensional thermal model ...

Study of non-linear interaction of circular laser pulse propagating through hot magnetized plasma in the presence of a planar magnetostatic wiggler

In this paper, the self-focusing property of an intense circularly polarized laser pulse in hot magnetized plasma is investigated theoretically. First, an envelope equation governing the spot-size of the laser beam for both left- and right-hand polarizations has been derived in the presence of a planar wiggler. Furthermore, non-linear dispersion relation of laser pulse is obtained by using Maxw...

Spatio-temporal mapping of ablated species in ultrafast laser-produced graphite plasmas

We studied the spatial and temporal distributions of ionic, neutral, and molecular species generated by femtosecond laser produced plasma under varying ambient nitrogen gas pressures. Plasmas were generated by irradiating planar graphite targets using 40 fs pulses of 800 nm radiation from a Ti:Sapphire laser. The results show that in the presence of an ambient gas, the molecular species spatial...
